Re: Our request to increase the O/S capacity next season to 60,000 has been accepted
Well yes, but that's the reason football pundits are shit and, for example, the cricket ones are excellent. They bother to know everything about every opponent.

All you have to do to be a football pundit is talk about 'experience' being essential, buying players, and being careful what you wish for. Not sure I've seen one of them come up with anything original. Most of them had us and Leicester to be in relegation bother this year. They had Watford down by Christmas and Bournemouth gone the second callum Wilson got injured.

Honestly don't know why anyone bothers paying the slightest bit of attention to anything they have to say.

Re: Our request to increase the O/S capacity next season to 60,000 has been accepted
It's their job though SG. They should at least know that we have a bigger fan base and a better history then those types of clubs and it was not as though they were in a league above us or finished way above us as we finished one or 2 places below them for a couple of seasons by a point or two whilst we were in consolidation mode and they were overachieving having s9me of the best seasons in their history.

Re: Our request to increase the O/S capacity next season to 60,000 has been accepted
No, but the 'pundits' you speak of are lazy.

Most refer to Chelsea as a big club.

Whilst I think they're lazy and mostly shit, in fairness, they don't spend their entire lives listening to each and every interview about every club, so they don't really have a clue what goes on at West Ham United.

So, what they'll do is comment on the bleeding obvious.
To wit, going forward with you Sam consistently finished below the likes of Palace, Stoke and Swansea, so to the casual observer, they were better positioned.

Luckily, we haven't gone forward with Sam.

League placings for a sesson or two have little bearing on it OM. Even if Leicester win the league it will not suddenly make them a big club or a bigger club than everyone below them, will it.

i heard Alan Green say that after saying we were better than Man U and thought the same. Why would Bilic fuck off after one season of a very big project? Just in terms of his personal CV it'd make him look mercenary.

Going forward with you Sam finished below Palace two seasons running.

It's about time our club got the respect it deserves Gav.
Sick and tired of us being compared to clubs like Palace, Stoke, Swansea and Southampton etc... and the patronising way pundits and commentators talk about us. You only have to look at our attendances (even in the championship) to know we are bigger than clubs like them and have always been stuck somewhwere between being a medium club and a big club.

I heard Alan Green I think it was commentating on our cup game last weekend and was saying "Billic is destined for a top job" If we remain competitive at the top end of the table and in the cups and are pulling in 60k every game how many bigger jobs would there be in the UK or even Europe?

One Mc, again, I know when our games are and don't call me son please. Even if you may be in the age bracket to qualify I don't think it's appropriate...

Nothings actually been confirmed yet, has it 13BR?

Mind, that nothing story about the pitch the other day, and the suggestion that moer was to come, suggests they have some announcements up their Druids sleeve.

Great news and a real kick in the nuts and massive slice of humble pie for all the cunts inc our own fans on here who said we'd never even fill 54k.

Gone very quiet now, not a peep from the media and pundits esp.

When we had a capacity of only 25k it was because of all seater stadia, it had always been higher. 42k for decades, then down to 37k for safety from the 70s and then down to 25k for all seater in the early 90s.

Me neither Arko but it is our public image. Here's what I think of other London clubs' images -

Chelsea's a Russian Billionaire's toy...

Arsenal a massively under achieving club...

Spurs a Jewish taxi driver's club with a slimeball chairman...

Mill...who?

Re: Our request to increase the O/S capacity next season to 60,000 has been accepted
Funny that none of the cult factors mentioned below were playing on my mind when I became a Hammer.
I was working locally in 1996 and wanted my fix of football and West Ham were only two stops on the tube away.

When I watched my first game I didn't know about any World Cup winning players of the past like Moore, Hurst and Peters. I didn't know the words to Bubbles.
I had no roots or relatives in the East End or Essex.
The letters ICF meant nothing to me.
I had only just learned two cockney phrases from colleagues at work.

Still I'm mighty glad West Ham found me and I cannot wait for the next chapter in our history.

Cockney Reds will help fill it...

Debt free club with owners who would accept an offer from the middle easy - check

New stadium where the IOC or British Athletics would accept a cash offer to buy out the 99 year lease - check

Local to living arrangements - check

Own club they have been supporting since 1991 is in limbo with manager and players (no team of 92) - check

Opportunity to glory hunt and say "I've always been West Ham" - check

Big things will happen to West Ham, we will be the most marketable club in the world at the start of next season and all of the bored billionaires who want to join in with the toy football club game will be coming to get us!

No doubt there will be a few less Citeh and Chelsea shirts worn around E15 over the coming years.

Re: Our request to increase the O/S capacity next season to 60,000 has been accepted
You're right Arko. When we went from 24,000 to 35,000 there were doubts we'd fill the stadium. Within a few short years we are about to go into a 60,000 seater - virtually the same as Arsenal and behind only Man Utd.

Why are WH fans so loyal and growing in such numbers? I think it might be because we have an iage of being a bit of a cult rather than a club.

There's the 3 WH stars of England's only ever WC win. Our hooligan ICF fans and the films about that. The East End gangster history magnified by likes of Ray Winston and Danny Dyer. The history of developing young talent (which is over rated) and the links with the working class roots make us a bit of a fashionable cult. Maybe?
